Baal Pred Two

Storm Bolter
Extra Armor

Baal Pred Three
Heavy Bolters

Death Company x4
Rhino

My list works very well. I win most of my games, and rarely lose nowadays. The only real problem is that my Assault Squads have no teeth. My tactic is to rush my rhinos ahead to sit on objectives. I rarely deploy the Assault Squads inside. But it seems that the last few weeks, I have been forced to unload them and assault. The problem is that they have no teeth. Lacking a fist or power weapon really hurts them. Last game was a prime example, I was in assault against a stupid Tau Suit and couldnt kill it... A single power sword in there would have changed that. So, I have decided to drop my attack bike, and put a power sword into each of my assault squads, and add a Melta Bomb to the Sgt. in the Tactical Squad. (In my last game, he assaulted a Tau Transport, alone, and actually destroyed it with Krak Grenades!) If he is going to be doing that, he needs something stronger.

Why am I dropping the bike? Because EVERY GAME, he comes on the table, moves 12", shoots his Meltagun, and misses. He never gets to shoot it twice. People HATE attack bikes and he takes a lot of shots. BUT, not as many as I would like. Its ok if he soaks up firepower that would normally go against a Predator, but usually guys just shoot one strong gun at it and kill it. This is a free kill point, and little value to me. I think those 50 points are way better spent in power weapons for my squads. What yas think?

JB.

Just make sure you and your boys don't beat up on our newbies too too badly. We've got a handful of players where this is going to be their first tournament.

I think you have a winner there. You and Fritz have shown already that mechanized lists are the way to win 5th edition games... but when the Guard start throwing down lots of plasma blasts, Inferno Cannon templates and Heavy 20 shots, transports will be even more important.

Now, if I can just find 2 more Baals.

I also wonder how you feel about the "mini-Baals" in the new SM Codex? Razorbacks with twin-linked assault cannons. Sure, it more or less double the cost of the Razorback, but for 190 points(85 points for the assault cannons + storm bolter, 105 points for a combat squad w/ a power fist), one has something that would at least worry opponents if they come en masse.

Hey, so I have been out of the game a while, and now my army suddenly sucks.

Anyway, I had been thinking of making a list similar to this one, but the big-time players around my parts all seem to think that mechanized blood angels is no good, that I should go with jump packers supported by baal preds.

Also, I am curious, if your assault squads are in rhinos and they just occupy objectives, who is doing all the killing?

Dante, speeder, baal preds, death company do the killin, the squads just claim objectives. If my army had jump packs instead of rhinos, Iwould not win games. Read my batreps! The assault pack army is a 4th edition mindset. It doesnt work in 5th.

I have been reading your reports and tactical articles for a while, and you are obviously more than capable.

I dunno...I just have to think, that if I was playing, I wouldn't be able to kill what I was trying to kill with Dante, a speeder, 4 death company...maybe with all those baals. Lol that is a lot of baals.

Maybe I could send over my crap-tastic list for some helpful blood angels pointers?

Again with the having to kill stuff! Hey guys, 5th edition is not about having to kill every model your opponent puts on the table. In two of the basic missions, so long as you have more objectives then your opponent at the end, you win! It doesnt matter if 90 percent of your stuff is dead and his is alive.

True: My army lacks the overpowering punch typical of a 4th edition Blood Angels and 5th edition Space Marine army. The simple fact is that New Codex Space Marine armies can make that list better and cheaper then Blood Angels. We get Furioso Dreads, for a few more points, they get Ironclads with better armor and frag grenades. We get Veteran squads, they get veteran squads with special ammo. We get an honor guard, theirs is cheaper. Storm Shields??? Bah. The list goes on and on. I don't complain though. I adapt.

A 5th edition Blood Angel army cannot win going toe to toe with a 5th edition codex marine army. The fights will be close, and we will win some... but in the long run... forget it.

Here is how I play my list:

Reserve every thing, depending on scenario. (More on that in a tactic post)

Keep Dante, Furioso Dread, Baals, and Death Co./Corb in rhino together. They are my kill force. Just point them in the right direction, and things die.

I place my 10 man tac in cover, on an objective, and fire that Lascannon every turn.

My speeder and bike move in to deal with targets of opportunity.

My three rhinos with Assault Squads? They hide, and wait for turn 3 or 4. Then they use Over Charged Engines, Smoke, and overlapping cover to get to their destinations, hopefully through the path of destruction sewn by my wrecking crew.

Will they all make it to their destination? Probably not. But they dont have to. Honestly, if the battle is going so poorly for me that my opponent has the luxury to shoot up my menial troop transports, then I'm gonna lose or win any way because he is either ignoring my wrecking crew (bad mistake) or they are dead. (I lose)

So, I get my Rhinos into position, hopefully bottom of turn 5, on top of objectives. The squads stay inside and dont get shot up and take stupid wounds, and hopefully game ends bottom of 5 and I win. At worst, they are forced to move up and contest all of his objectives, while my tactical squad holds mine. I win 1 to 0.

There are soo many variables here that it is too much to get into. That conversation is a whole series of posts. But the bottom line here is that guys who focus on destroying their enemy need to rethink their strategy to 5th edition.

Oh, and Assault Squads with jump packs? They suck at taking objectives. Rhinos can move faster, tank shock, then sit on objectives, blocking your opponent from getting close enough to contest. They provide a safe place for your squads to hide, and when they are destroyed, provide cover over objectives that are in open terrain. The Rhino gives 2 or 3 extra turns of life to a 5 man assault squad trying to take an objective. I have lost track of the games that I have won doing this, and equally lost track of the games I lost before.

And definitely post your list here. Would love a look at it. Also send in a report of how you do with it... battle reports.
