A word on football.

"I think that will be the toughest thing for me, you know, being away from my family and my son," said Burress, who broke down in tears talking about his wife and son. "I want to be with my wife. She's pregnant; she's due on Thanksgiving Day. I'm having a baby girl. And I won't even be there for that."

Plaxico Burress on his two year jail term.

Boo Hoo. It is one thing to be stupid enough to shoot yourself in the leg. But if you are too stupid to know that it is illegal to carry an unliscensed glock concealed on your person into a New York City night club, you deserve to be in jail. To say you did not know there is a penalty is a bold faced lie, and deserves you an even longer jail term. If you ask me, his kids would probably be better off without him as a role model...

I feel sorry for him. No one ever let him know he was responsible for himself and would be held accountable for his actions like a real man and not a football star. It must suck not having a friend, parent or role model to stand up to you when you are being an idiot.

Everyone needs someone to ground them and let them know they still have to abide by the same rules as everyone else. Sadly if Plax/Vick/insert sports star who does something stupid like this, were surrounded by people who had a vested intrest in their future they wouldn't have these problems. The good thing is for every criminal there is a D.Brooks, or Warrick Dunn busting their ass to play football and doing things in the community. If only the media gave these guys the same press as the morons we would all have a more balanced opinion of Pro Sports.

While it is just that a 'super star' actually be punished accordingly for a change, I can't help by sympathise for Plaxico.
Honestly, I think he should have had a less severe penalty. Parole, house arrest, something of the sort. There was the possibility that some one could have been shot by his accidental discharge, but no one was. We don't punish people for the possibility of things happening, we punish them for what they have done.
Plaxico punished himself plenty as it is. He shot himself, discredited himself, and made a fool of himself. He also provided the internet with a good deal of humor through it all too.

If his misses his wife and son so much maybe he should have been spending time with them instead of at a nightclub where he thought he needed a loaded gun.

Hae to wonder if the crime fits the punishment when the football you killed someone while driving drunk get 30 days and the footballer who shots himself in the leg gets 2 years.

If he thinks he's being treated unfairly, consider that if you or I had shot ourselves in the leg while carrying an unlicensed gun in a nightclub and then attempted to cover it up, we wouldn't be conducting interviews, we would have been sitting in jail already.

Worse, he worse the damn gun in the waistband of his sweats. It's one thing to think he needs a gun for protection (which he doesn't), but if he's not going to wear it in a holster for his and everyone else's safety, then that's another thing.

Guns don't go off by themselves (except for in the movies), he was horsing around with it when it went off.

I don't exactly sympathize with him, but the jail term was bit much, as Eriochrome said, killing someone while drunk driving nets thirty days, but shooting yourself in the leg accidentally gets two years? Hmm...

Mik is right. They don't call them Glock Safe Action pistols for nothing. There are 3 safety features build into the trigger and firing pin assembly which stop the weapon from discharging accidentally.

Furthermore, if you want to carry a concealed weapon for personal safety, the law allows for such a thing. All you have to do is whatever the law demands in the state in which you live. (if the state allows carry rights). If it is that important to you and the state in which you currently reside does not allow concealed carry permits, then move to a state which does.

Bottom line, he is a moron and a danger to other citizens.

he deminished concealed weapons licenses, atleast get one. He kind of did already get what he wrought by shooting himself (irony maby?) but yeah 2 years is too harsh, ehh jersey is fiesty girl but yeah gotta love her

side note: doesnt he never see them anyway bc of football?

Much like Phelps was quickly "banned" from future Olympic events after a picture of him circulated in possession of a device for smoking illegal plants, Plexy-glass was "quickly" punished amid a media shipstorm.

Just as Phelps was reinstated on the Olympic team as soon as the press stopped caring (i.e. Swine Flu) So too will our silly friend soon find himself out for "Good Behavior".

That's "Justice" in America, you'll be punished as quickly as the media demands, and that punishment will be enforced until soon after everyone has stopped caring.
