1st Jawaballs Painting Contest results part 1.

Here are the first set of results from the 1st Jawaballs painting contest sponsored by miniwargaming!

Here are all of the non winning entries. Some of these did make it into the final cut, but just did not make the top 10. What is the difference between some of these and some of the top 10 finalists? In some cases, very little. They were all beautiful, but for some of the last places, maybe the entries that won had a little more pop or a little more flare. It is hard to say. This was a difficult thing to judge since I would say at least half of these entries could have taken that tenth spot. Thank you all for entering! I hope I got them all up here.

Again, if you did not get an email from me saying that I received your entry, it probably did not get judged.

Coming up next, places 10 and 9.

There's some great minis in here. I didn't get to enter in the end as I was unwell and never finished my mini but it's great to get to see these entries. Intrigued to see the top 10 now! :)

As for mine, you posted one of my WIP photos. I hope that's not the one I was judged on.

I looked at the groups of pictures, then grabbed one of them to post up online. When I grabbed the posted pics, I was taking them from the thumbs in the folder. Some of them may be WIP pics because the thumbs were small. Sorry!

Hey Faolain, dont worry, I just looked into the winners folder, and yours is in there. That one that went up here did not belong. :) For some reason I doubled up one of the places... so there will actually be a top 11. I thought something wasnt adding up!

Well, personally a bummer, but it was still a fun contest! Plus I got to convert and paint something I never would have in the first place, so it was a good opportunity. Can't wait to see the results...or the next contest!

Really fantastic work here! If these are only the final cut, I can't wait to see the top 11. Great work all.

Yah, sorry Mik, you were excited about your model as was every one else. There was so much great stuff I wish I could have given prizes to every one. For some of the last spots, I seriously had to just line up about 15 of them, and stare at them until one popped out. They were that close. I would say after the top 4 or 5, the next 6 spots could have gone to just about any of about 20 or so. All I can say is there will be More to Come! :)

I can only say wow! Damn you guys are good, poor jawa didn't have an easy time at all. I am seriously impressed with the standard. I am happy I entered and it upped my game for sure. If the top guys are even better, seriously, you bring the best out of people.

Stiff competition, wow.

I am stoked to see the finalists, that is for sure.

Keep 'em coming Jawa, lets not draw this out!

I am wondering if my dark photo did'nt hurt my ranking.
thats why I asked for a light booth for x-mas:)

I had fun painting my mini up and cannot wait to see the top 10.
Now I can finally put him up on my blog.

OH but drawing it out is half the fun! It is called suspense!

Some of you were hurt by the quality of your picture taking. I tried to not let poor pictures have an effect though.

How exciting! The judging at last.
I can't wait to see the finalists!

Who said that I was hurt by more poor photography skills?:) That blur might just help me *grin*

Serious though, it is way cool that such a mixed group did this. I started painting this January and some of you guys have done it forever.

Also, everyone who blogs and get good photo results, you should post a little post on how you do it. I wouldn't mind some tips:)

Bugger. Wish I had of done a space hulk one. Wow those others look good. Least I know what to aim for next time and I think I need a macro lense for my camera lol. Well done to the top ten. I will definitely give the next contest a go too.

Ahhhh! I've been waiting until these were published to tell me story haha. So my initial plan was to finish off my Terminator Captain with a Forgeworld shoulderpad, and so I ordered them a month in advance (from an online store who's reputation I want to uphold because it was not their fault but the mail services). So I waited, and waited... and they never came! I decided to hold out as long as I could and last minute was forced to paint my Stormbolter arm in 2 hours! I start painting, and after 15 minutes I hear my girlfriend scream downstairs... the air conditioner fell out the window! I needed to fix the window and get the AC. Then finish painting and putting it together. I somehow did this and had 10 minutes to take the photos, upload on my computer, and then send them out. When I looked at my clock after I hit send I think I made the deadline by 20 seconds or so. This was definitely an experience I will not soon forget. The kicker is my shoulderpads came 2 days later in the mail. I think my photography definitely suffered because of my rush, as did my finished results, but I'm not trying to make excuses for myself. Truth be told, this is only the 13th model I have ever painted and I just wanted to see how I'd do in a challenge like this. Congrats to the yet to be named winners and an awesome job done by my fellow runner uppers!

Woroxon, yours was one of those that could have easily been 5th through 10th. It was very well done.
