The Grey Knights March

Forgive the terrible pics, but here is my new Castellan Crowe!  You can guess what will make up the bulk of my Grey Knight army. He is posing in front of a couple of rhinos.  :)  I will post up good pics once I get a chance to take some.

Haha, never. Just been looking for an army I would like to play. Dark Eldar did not fit that.

I guess you beat me to it. I was planning on painting up some grey knights and posting them up lol.

I would love to paint them up and get started with playing the game again instead of just painting. Maybe I'll set a goal date by Chicago to get an army done. Will probably need you and Fritz on my butt to get it done lol.

Troops Purifiers! Best Elite choice in Troops now.
And what that guy will do on the battlefield? Any ideas 'bout Crowe in action, or his role is just to take an HQ slot and put Purifiers in troops?
BTW, looking forward to see some Grey Knights painting tutorial.

Wow!
I love it.
You have out done yourself I think...

I don't expect much from Crowe on the battlefield. His weapon rends on 4+ which means he will only have a power weapon half the time, the rest it is just a chain sword. But unlocking the purifiers is key. :)

Looks great Jawa! How did you do the bone color on the purity seals. I'm painting my Mephiston and having trouble making that bone color.

Thanks! Bestial brown, Snake bite leather, 50/50 snake bite/bleached bone, pure bleached bone. Highlight the edges with pure white, and wash with gryphon sepia. Then maybe touch the edges again with highlights. :)

Ah, mixing...my mortal enemy we meet again! Bah, I need to learn to paint better.

Yeah but against most things you only wound on a 4+ anyway, unless you use hammer hand, but hes likely using purifying flame instead, so really its a power weapon mostly all the time. Except against toughness 3, but most t3 things have bad saves anyway.

But I'm not sure how it is a power weapon most of the time. It is a Str 4 weapon that rends on a 4+. Without psychic powers, that means on a 1-3 it is just a normal weapon. With my well documented rolling, that means more likely than not it will NOT rend. :)

Admittedly I was not considering psychic powers when I wrote that, but I tend to build armies without counting on them as they have a tendency to fail you at the worst possible times. Hammerhand gives Str 10 right? So, Str 10 rending... that would still mean that it is a PW only 50% of the time as you would still get an armor save vs the Str 10 shot. Or am I missing something?

OOOhhh I get it. Lol, duh. Most things you wound on a 4+ any way. So against things that you normally wound on a 4+ you get a rending shot. So whenever he wounds normally he is still getting a power weapon hot for all intents and purposes. Except vs T3 models.

You were starting to worry me there Jawa. But on topic I'm not 100% sold on the Gray Knights yet. I'm seeing the most competitive lists being Inquisition Lists and that is more like IG then GK.

Side note, Jawa can you add me to your blogroll need to get some coverage for my site 1 follow makes me a sad raven.

Crowe isn't all bad, but you just have to be careful in how you use him. He is great against weaker hordes as long as he has the charge, and against taking out pesky independent characters/monstrous creatures. Now...if only he was an independent character himself. That would seal the whole deal.

Yah the lack of IC is lame. It is not like he is Mephiston.

He is not Mephiston Points either. And making purifiers troops is SO huge.

I personally would rather take a grand master or two and use their grand strategy rule to make purifiers troops. I just hate Crowe and think he is an uBer waste of points. The AoE from the purifiers is awesome and so is the 4 weapon upgrades you can take. But I'm just not feeling them. Personally I think a big time henchmen/coteaz spam with one big bad squad of paladins is the key. That would give you insane shooting, multiple troops(cheap) and one big bad CC unit. We will all just have to see...

True General. There is a lot left to be seen. But to get me started and on the table I have a nice little army, and I'm pretty sure purifiers will be a part of any army I build. So to me they are a good choice to begin with no matter what. I need to look at the option you talk about as far as the Grand Masters.
