Hey guys! Happy Easter.
I just wanted to share a bit of painting with you.
I have been practicing my Airbrushing! I am painting a Vindicator for this years charity army build for The Nova. Official post to come once public details are announced. Since John Stiening, the team leader, has decided on the official recipe, and it includes airbrushing, I needed to up my game. So here we go!
Based on John's recipe, we start with a black prime. Then we airbrush Mephiston Red, building up from the edges. He demonstrated using masking tape to get a color modulation effect you can see on the smoke stacks. It's a bit washed out but you can see how it works. For John's mini tutorial visit HERE. Thats about it for now. I played around with creating a stencil for the top hatch... but need to tighten it up. Also my water slide decal skills have apparently slipped. I botched the paint on the door missing here and had to redo.
What is my plan by the way? A Mechanized Blood Angels army with a dozen rhinos of course! More on that soon too. I am playing 40k tomorrow and should have my first batrep posted in months.
It is good to be excited about gaming again!

EDIT: more pics. I added the decal on the side and gave it a blast with Gloss, then supposedly Windsor and Newton Matte varnish, but I think I will have to try another brand to further reduce the shine.

Looking great Chris! Can't wait to see some of your excellent freehand on this.
The freehand is going to be minimal. I will do a little angel wing on the front left depression, and numbers. But I'm going with decals for the logos on the doors. I want precise uniformity and hand painting all those symetrical logos is very, very hard. :)
I added more images of the Rhino with the deecal on the side and some varnish.
I love blood angels. Hopefully we'll get paired up at the NOVA Narrative. I am having a little trouble building a 1k list. Haven't played that small in years!
Great use of shade and modulation. Gives the red a lot of depth and pop!
John 1k list? For what? can you advise me please... I cant find info about what I am supposed to do and I definitely need to start painting asap.
They added 1k to narrative (with the 2k). I'm having issues too. My 2k list was all setup! Tons of ork walkers to crush john!
Nova changes (in news letter).
We heard you! Based on player feedback, the current state of 40k, and our diabolical top secret plans, the Narrative Team has several important changes that affect both Warlords and Nightfighters:
List Construction - All players are to bring a 2,000 point battle-forged army list AND a 1,000 point battle-forged army list. The 1,000 point list may only draw from Factions used to craft the 2,000 point list. Previously only Warlords had the 1k requirement, but we've decided to bring everyone into the fun! You should expect to play in at least one team-based encounter during the course of the nightfight and warlords tracks. More details on the nature of this fight are classified for now.
Supplements NO LONGER Mandatory - While almost all players used the narrative codex supplements last year, we've decided to keep them optional again in light of the many different new detachments that players may wish to use. We still plan to have updated codex supplements for the majority of the major armies by end of April, so stay tuned for the April 15th Newsletter!
No super heavy or gargantuan lords of war - We have decided this year not to allow these units in either the Nightfighters or Warlords army lists. You are still free to bring Imperial Knights and other super heavies and gargantuans that are NOT lords of war.
If I need a 1k list, I got it down though... Priest, Techmarine with Servo Harness, 3 scout squads with snipers, adn 6 assault squads in rhinos
Ahhhhhhh .... sigh of relief...
It'll be cool to play with you guys this year. I hope I get all the ork walkers done to a suitable quality to play vs your stunning armies!
Thanks Greg that is what i needed to know. This focuses me purely on Blood Angels and eliminates the Stormlord Superheavy I was thinking about... Unless of course there is a way to add just that to my army...
Greg follow John's blog. (I imagine you do already) He gives really great tips has helped me tremendously.
Oh I have :). When I see him I will question him for tips until he rolls some dice to escape!
