I thought some of you might enjoy this. I am making a full sized 2nd company banner. I am using a heavy fabric banner made by a friends wife, and painting it with Acrylic paint. I will keep this post updated with pictures as I work in it!
I added another picture. It is nice having an army of middle school kids at my disposal to do my dirty work! "So class, today we get to learn how to underpaint..."

Getting ready for the Baltimore GT I see...
oooooh, niiiice. You should seriously consider offering hand-painted full-sized banners like this on commission. I'd seriously consider buying a Dark Angels Banner...
Uhhh???? (ears perk up) Believe me man, I have thought about it. Especially since I have an army of workers to do the tedious part... :) Joking.. But reality is that the banner alone cost me 40 bucks. And it is worth every penny, it is beautifully crafted by hand. (thanks BlackMatts wife) I just dont know if I could get enough to make it worth my time. But I tell you what, decide which DA banner you want, I will work on it for fun, then you can decide if you want to buy it when it is done! :)
Progress Update:
I started the red. Painting on the black banner requires at least 5 or 6 full applications of paint. On the yellow left side, I mixed a little white into the paint to make it more opaque for the final layer. I will need to do a few touch up spots though. I suppose painting the entire area with a very opaque white would have been better for an undercoat. I misjudged the opacity of the yellow, and the fabrics capacity fo absorption. I lay on a color and it looks decent wet, but when it dries, it is as if I put nothing down at all. More to come!
Added a new progress pic.
What type of cloth did you use for this, Jawa?
It is a heavy black cloth, almost canvas.
Thanks for the answer. I will have to see what I can round up from Hobby Lobby. Your banner is straight up wicked, and our club is drawing their inspiration from your banner.
As an aside: I don't think I would have the same results if I had my physics students working on my banner though.... something about right brain - left brain tells me it just wouldn't work out!
