Send me your fine cast pics!

Hey guys, in follow up to my recent post about the quality of the new Fine Cast models, I want to run a piece comparing and contrasting the various successes and failures that you have encountered.  So send me your pictures! Please use the "macro" setting on your camera and use bright lighting.  Flashes will wash out the details you are trying to show.  Photograph them outside if possible. Too much direct light is not good either. Ahh the wonders of photography.  Try to get them in asap so I can run the article on Monday. I have already received a few!

Not a bad cast!

I want to like Finecast. Really.  Lets see if the rash of poor casts is just bad net reaction or bad business sense. And please don't photoshop in comments to the pics. :)

Mine live at http://40kproject.blogspot.com/2011/05/why-i-think-finecast-is-mostly-awesome.html feel free to steal any you like if they are helpful to your comparisons. Took the pics about 50 times, I think they are as good as they will get with my camera sadly! I can take more of the tyrant guard if needed but the tyrant is now half painted unfortunately!

Hey, Jawaballs. No pics here but I was just at my local GW to finally look at the finecast models. A bunch of the regulars had built some of their favorite models and put them in the display case of the store to kind of promote the new line of models. There was a Space Marine Librarian, Zagstruk, some Knight on a flying horse, Ghazghkull, an Emperor's Champion, Marneus Calgar and his retinue.. I didn't see a single air bubble on ANY of them, with the exception of a little imperfection on Zagstruk's jetpack engine, which could easily be fixed with some super glue. I also looked at my buddy's Emperor's Champion and it looked amazing.

Thanks for that input Skarvald! I have to ask if you think a GW store would allow horrible models to be displayed? I wonder if they had to open multiple packages before finding models that were perfect... or if they were the first ones out of the box? Is there any chance you can inquire from the NONgw employees about the process they used? I have seen some good pictures so far, and I have seen some terrible ones.

One model I have seen was so horrible that if the store refused to refund me I would have simply thrown it out in their trash behind the counter and never stepped foot in there again. But this chaos dude in this article looks pretty nice! We need more!!!

2 days ago I came across a miscast model - it was a terminator libby I got as a gift, returning it back to the shop or whining about it was not an option, so I decided to "work" from there. Unfortunately, when I saw your post, it was already complete and painted.

I am sending you some pictures of it right now, showing you some miscast spots. Some of them are obvious, but some are hard to see now under the filler and paint.

I'll try to get some pictures but I've got 4 finecast, all really nice. I've also been in 2 local GW shops and watched as GW staff opened blisters and friends/customers opened blisters.

In total I've probably seen around 50 from across the range and so far no issues any worse than metal. From experience you get a lot more flashing but it comes off with your thumb, my only minor issue is the Libby termy staff which is a bit soft but they are SO much easier to put together

@ Eyno, if you go to a GW store just turning up with the model even if you have no receipt might be enough to get an exchange. A number of GW's in London have let me/friends return/exchange items without any proof of purchase even if I didn't buy it at their GW.

@ Grosser. Mine first Finecast models turned to be A-OK, I would of had follow your advice if it was one of them. In this case I don't want to do that because it was a gift, no other reason.

Idk if it is just me but I've been noticing that on average, more UK bloggers/commentators (BoW in particular) have been having miscasts and bad reports than Americans that have been reviewing these products.

Yes, Americans have been getting a share of crappy sculpts but maybe the UK is getting more miscasts?

I just got my Dante today and I must say it looks better than the metal version. yes its still the sculpt from 1995. Its the 3rd one ive had the first one his axe snapped off in transport to a mates house to play (back in 1998 when started out).. I just wanted a lighter one to play with as he was a bit back heavy in metal. Ill get you some pics tomorrow :)

I had a browse through the clampacks at my local GW and didn't see a sign of a miscast on dozens of models. Bought a couple and they were perfectly cast and a pleasure to work with.

I did hear of one miscast coming from a boxed kit in the same store, but the manager replaced it without a quibble.

Maybe the boxes are more likely to have miscasts since they won't be spotted in advance by GW staff?

I'd guess that there are a few miscasts in the new line as they are still getting their production issues sorted out, but I suspect that the internet rage represents a really small percentage of problem models magnified by the publicity it's getting.

small comment on making photos of finecast outside:
avoid direct sunlight, and remember to take the models back inside, or you will have a new batch of plaguemarines/nurgle deamons :P
